Are You Tearing Down Your House?

This verse is pretty clear.  Wise people build up their house and foolish ones tear it down.  Although directed toward women, who were in charge of the house and its inhabitants during the time this book was written, it is applicable to all.  The leaders in the family, the leaders of a household, have great impact.  The one running the household has the ability to encourage and direct, allowing family members and servants and workers to attain their goals.  She makes sure that everyone has what they need to be successful. Not just in their chores and the daily grind of work, but also in their spiritual journeys.

However, she also has the ability to tear down these very same people.  Harsh words, laziness, or apathy can make work a hassle, cause others to not be diligent, and leave members of the household with no direction.  She has the ability to crush their emotions, stifle their spiritual growth, and hinder their mental growth.  This house is not healthy and will not produce well.

What are you in charge of?  What is your house?  Are your actions building up or tearing down?

If you want to take it further, you can do a Words of Wisdom journal.  Simply make categories (you can add a category whenever you want) and put the Bible verses into the appropriate categories.  For instance, one category might be "Money."  Every time a verse has to do with money, you write it under the category.  As time goes on, you will have a journal of wisdom from the Bible organized in an easy to find way.
