I was laughing quite a bit at this one! First, because it is funny, but second because I have been here quite a few times!! Have you ever been in a desperate situation and you beg God for help only to wonder if God is using you for a good laugh? I’m here to tell you that no, God isn’t using you for a good laugh, but often God’s way seems a little crazy to us!

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Joshua 1:9 ESV

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28 ESV

I know what you are thinking, “How can you not be frightened when your car is out of control and God took one of the wheels off instead of taking over the steering wheel?!” I hear you. I have been there, more than once. It is a scary place to be. And that is the time when your faith is truly tested. In this situation, a crazy situation just turned into an insane situation. Your first inclination is probably to take the situation back into your own hands. After all, you asked God for help and the situation just went haywire. But this is where you have a decision. Are you going to take everything back from God and work it out on your own? Or are you going to go with the way God has chosen?

God’s way is always the best way. The Bible repeatedly tells us that he is in control and he works things out to the good for those who believe in him. Now don’t get me wrong, from our end of things, it can look pretty crazy. We ask God for help, assuming it will go a certain way, and then God chooses the way that is most illogical (to us) and crazy. From our view point, being limited in our power and insight, it is the crazy way. Deciding to follow God anyway is what proves our faith.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV

Sometimes God’s way just doesn’t look right to us. It makes no sense. Yet, the Holy Spirit has shown us that it is the way God wants us to go. We are confused because we can’t understand why God would do it this way instead of that way. We need to remember that we are not all-knowing, God is. We are not the creator of the universe, he is. We are not all powerful, God is. We also need to remember that God has a purpose for us and he makes sure that his purpose is accomplished.

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.

John 15:16 ESV

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Jeremiah 29:11 ESV

God has plans for us and for other believers. He expects us to bear fruit in his name. How do we bear the right fruit? We follow God’s plans, even when they seem a little (or a lot!) crazy to us. When you get a little scared going down that path, just remember that God works everything to your good and his plans are to give you a future and a hope.

Have you been in a situation where you felt totally out of control? Did you do it God’s way or your own way? How did it work out?

What keeps you from going all in when God’s plan seems illogical? How do you handle it?

If you are in a situation where you need God’s intervention, spend some time in prayer. Ask him for the help you need and for the wisdom to know where he wants you to go. Then ask him to walk with you and give you the courage to do what he has asked.
