Today, Boko Haram has officially claimed responsibility for kidnapping 276 Christian girls.  The leader promises to sell them into marriages.  He also talked of forcing them to convert and become wives to some of the members.  And he promises more is to come.

Mothers of the girls protested, telling the world that their government is doing nothing, and asking for the world to help.  Nigeria’s President went on TV asking the US to send people to Nigeria to help, specifically, the military.  There are reports of Nigeria’s First Lady having a few of the protestors arrested.  It is uncertain at this time if she actually has that authority and if she used it.

So far, the Pentagon says no formal request has been sent to them.  Therefore, no military is being sent.  Until our President asks for our troops to be sent, none will be.

So what does our President say?  Well, Jay Carney, his spokesperson, says they are “doing what we can.”  That includes counterterrorism aid.

Sound vague?  It is.

And while the world sits around, not paying attention, two girls have died of snakebites and 20 are ill.  Boko Haram is promising to keep them as slaves and sell them at will.  According to their theology, these girls are captives of a holy war and, as such, are slaves.  The general practice is to make them sex slaves.

My article on this subject, published last night, is already out of date.  That’s how fast things are changing in this situation.  But it isn’t changing for the good.

Some girls were able to escape.  Most did not and are subject to a terrorist group’s whims.  The girls’ families are desperately searching the nearby forest, following every lead they can find, and are becoming increasingly frustrated.  They now believe the girls to be in a completely different country and in separate groups going in different directions.

And where is the UN?  While the world debates climate change and other less important issues, girls are being kidnapped and forced into sex slavery.

Where is the Muslim community on this?  Where is the outrage at what these terrorist groups are doing?  Are Muslims condoning this because the girls are Christian?

Where is the Christian community?  We need to be spreading the word, showing our outrage, and pressuring our government to act.
