The righteousness of the blameless
keeps his way straight,
but the wicked falls by his own wickedness.
Proverbs 11:5 ESV
Righteous Behavior Helps You
Righteousness is defined as having moral and/or ethical behavior. For us, it is behavior that is ethical/moral by God's standards. In society, we often see righteousness as stifling and keeping us from fun. Sometimes, we may even make fun of those who seem to be too righteous. However, the Bible tells us that righteousness helps keep us blameless and also helps us make the right decisions.
If we are involved in wickedness (sin), then we are apt to continue to make the wrong decisions. Because of these wrong decisions, we are not blameless. If a situation ever arose where we were falsely accused, others would have a hard time thinking we are blameless.
Righteousness is an important attribute of a Christian. By practicing righteousness (making the right moral and ethical decisions) we are sensitive to the Holy Spirit. By being sensitive to the Holy Spirit, we are able to know the right choice and then choose it.
Are you practicing righteousness? If not, it is never too late to repent and start. The Holy Spirit was given to us in order to counsel us in the ways of righteousness.
WORDS OF WISDOM JOURNAL
If you want to take it further, you can do a Words of Wisdom journal. Simply make categories (you can add a category whenever you want) and put the Bible verses into the appropriate categories. For instance, one category might be "Money." Every time a verse has to do with money, you write it under the category. As time goes on, you will have a journal of wisdom from the Bible organized in an easy to find way.
