Wednesday Wisdom: Love or Faithfulness?

Many a man proclaims his own steadfast love,

but a faithful man who can find?

Proverbs 20:6 ESV

Love or Faithfulness?

In movies, and in life, we often see professions of love.  We hear about how arduous a person's love is, how large their love is, how deep and wide, and on and on.  We see this in other forms to.  For instance, when someone tells us they are our friend, they've got our back, or that they will stand by us til the end.  These proclaims of steadfast love are given aplenty.

The problem is, usually, these words are fleeting.  Words convey the passion of the moment, but it is action that is long-lasting.  How many of those movies ended with the person not being faithful, or having other motives?  Having a daughter, my mind jumps right to Frozen, and poor Ana that found out almost too late that true love isn't about words, but actions. Kristoff may not have been the most eloquent, but his actions proved his love.

Being faithful is part of true love.  Being faithful is one of the actions that shows love.  Words are nice and make us feel good.  But without actions, without faithfulness, they are nothing.  Many people have pretty words, but how many are faithful to those words?

If you want to take it further, you can do a Words of Wisdom journal.  Simply make categories (you can add a category whenever you want) and put the Bible verses into the appropriate categories.  For instance, one category might be "Money."  Every time a verse has to do with money, you write it under the category.  As time goes on, you will have a journal of wisdom from the Bible organized in an easy to find way.
