This selection of readings is done in the order that we believe they happened (chronological order).  The four gospels are four different accounts of Jesus' life.  Sometimes, the accounts are in multiple gospels and other times they are only in one gospel.  This set of readings uses the accounts that are the longest (when there are multiple accounts) and also includes the accounts that only happen in one gospel.
