"So teach us to number
our days
that we may get
a heart of wisdom."

Psalm 90:12 ESV

Numbering Our Days

What does it mean to "number our days?" and how does it give us a "heart of wisdom?"  Numbering our days simply refers to the realization that we only have so many days to live on this earth.  When we tell someone "your days are numbered," it is usually a threat that the person's life is ending soon.  In this case, it is not a threat but the meaning is similar.  God controls how long we live on earth.  He has the number of days that equate to our earthly life.  If we knew that we would be gone tomorrow, the way we live today would change.  For a Christian, we would be laser focused on God's mission for our life because we would know that we only had one day left to get it done.  The psalmist is emphasizing that we should be this way everyday.  We should go about each day as if it were our last.

Why?  So that we may obtain a heart of wisdom.  People who know they are dying suddenly have their priorities straight, they don't focus on things that don't matter, they restore relationships that were broken, they say the things that they never did before.  If we lived everyday like that, we would be much more wise.  A wise person keeps their priorities straight, doesn't get distracted by things that don't matter, they restore relationships, and always say what needs to be said. Numbering our days keeps us focused on God, and being focused on God gives us clarity and wisdom.

WORDS OF WISDOM JOURNAL
If you want to take it further, you can do a Words of Wisdom journal.  Simply make categories (you can add a category whenever you want) and put the Bible verses into the appropriate categories.  For instance, one category might be "Money."  Every time a verse has to do with money, you write it under the category.  As time goes on, you will have a journal of wisdom from the Bible organized in an easy to find way.

Your donation helps me continue to provide Biblically sound devotions and articles, to write books and materials on the body of Christ and how we are to be the body of Christ, and to advocate for the persecuted Church. As a homeschool mom, military spouse, and Bible teacher, your donations are paramount to the continuation of these things.

Thank you so much for any donation you are willing to make!  God Bless!
