Go to the ant, you sluggard;
    consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
    no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
    and gathers its food at harvest.

Proverbs 6:6-8 NIV

Be the Ant

The ant is most definitely not the animal of choice to represent wisdom.  We usually think of the owl, or maybe an eagle or an elephant.  But the ant?  Yet the Bible references the ant multiple times.  Why?  In this set of verses, the wisdom is in the actions of the ant and the fact that the ant does so without being told.  There is no dictator ant telling all the other ants what to do.  Ants just do their jobs.  By all of the ants doing their jobs, the work gets done.  Not only does the work get done, but it provides for all the ants throughout the seasons that have no harvest.

We are not to be lazy or idle.  God made us to work.  Yes, we are to rest as well.  However, we are not to be lazy.  Rest gives us the energy to continue our work. Laziness leads to idleness and little work gets done.  If we have a spirit of laziness, we must be told what to do all the time.  Our energy will be spent doing as little as possible.  But this is not the way of the ant!  We should be about our work whenever we are not at rest.  We should go about our work doing our best, not as little as possible.  This type of behavior and mindset pleases God. So when you have the urge to sit around and do nothing, ask yourself "Do you need a rest? Or am I being lazy?"

WORDS OF WISDOM JOURNAL
If you want to take it further, you can do a Words of Wisdom journal.  Simply make categories (you can add a category whenever you want) and put the Bible verses into the appropriate categories.  For instance, one category might be "Money."  Every time a verse has to do with money, you write it under the category.  As time goes on, you will have a journal of wisdom from the Bible organized in an easy to find way.

Your donation helps me continue to provide Biblically sound devotions and articles, to write books and materials on the body of Christ and how we are to be the body of Christ, and to advocate for the persecuted Church. As a homeschool mom, military spouse, and Bible teacher, your donations are paramount to the continuation of these things.

Thank you so much for any donation you are willing to make!  God Bless!
