What a beautiful picture that meme paints! Yet, how often do we make it so much more complicated? In a world filled with busyness and things to do, it is often hard to realize that Jesus just wants us to walk with Him. He doesn’t want, nor does He expect, us to know or plan everything. He doesn’t even expect us to know any facts about it. He just wants us to trust Him to lead, just like a daddy or mommy would do with their child.

You see, God did put us on earth for a purpose. That purpose is to glorify Him. However, he did not put us on this earth to do it all ourselves. His purpose in creating us was to have a relationship with us. This is evidenced in the Creation (as well as all throughout the Bible).

God created an entire garden, called Eden, for man to enjoy. He made sure to create a companion for man (woman) so that he could share his days with someone. But what really stands out is that God walked among the garden with Adam and Eve. He didn’t just create two people and leave them alone. He walked in the garden with them and talked with them.

And that was just the start. All throughout the Bible, we see God reaching out to have a relationship with humankind, despite our weaknesses and failures. The culmination of this was when he sent Jesus, His Son, to suffer, die, and be resurrected in order to be the final sacrifice for our sins. Why did He do this? He did it in order to continue to have relationship with us.

Jesus being the ultimate and final sacrifice allows us to have a relationship with God here on earth as well as in the afterlife.

In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?

John 14:2

But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.

Philippians 3:20-21

Notice how in both of those verses, Jesus is preparing for us again. Rooms and new bodies. The Bible talks about a new heaven and a new earth. Jesus is always taking care of us, just as parents take care of their children; providing a place for them to stay, keeping them healthy, giving them things to enjoy.

But God wants to give us this here on earth as well. We just need to trust Him to take the lead. By trusting in Him to lead, we can truly have peace on earth, knowing that He’s got this. Kids who trust their parents haven’t a care in the world, knowing that their parents take care of everything. We can be that way too. We just need to take His hand and trust His lead.

  1. Are you trusting Jesus to lead you?
  2. What is hindering you?
  3. Take a moment and think through what is hindering you. Decide to trust Jesus, no matter how crazy or hard it is. Every time you start to take that thing back, pray to Jesus, telling Him that you are consciously giving it to Him. Let Jesus teach you how to follow Him that way a child follows his father.
