Oh my goodness!! I cannot tell you enough how this is me! Everything in my life seems to live on this cycle. As a military wife, we are constantly in this cycle with moving. “Yes! A new place! What an adventure! I am so excited!” Until we get there and the boxes are missing, we can’t find a good grocery, sign ups for everything but we missed the deadlines, on and on and on…

Oh, and then there’s just life. “We need stability! We need a routine!” Then we establish the routine and we are all asking, “When are we going to do something? Can we go to New York City? What is the point of all of this?”

Or we are all signed up to do something, but after several weeks/months we are drained and can’t wait for it to end.

I mean, it’s quite comical. I could go on, but will save you from it!

However, in all that chaos, God is always consistent. Whether we are in the routine or in the excitement, God is always with us in all of it. If we let him, he experiences it with us, guides us through it, energizes us when we need it, rejoices with us when it’s appropriate… this is what it is to rest in God. Having him with you through all of life. The good, the bad, the ugly… all of it.

You see, to rest in God is to know that he is with us. We don’t just know this in our heads, but we know it the way we know a mother’s love. He is always there.

We often hear about God being with us through the hard times.

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Psalm 23:4

But do you realize that he is with you in everything?

The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.

Zephaniah 3:17

God wants to be with you in the good and the bad times. He gave us the Holy Spirit to guide us through all of those times.

God loves to be our provider, our helper, and our shelter. He also loves to share in our joys, lavish gifts on us, and spend time with us. Just like an earthly parent would. The difference is that God is literally there with us in every moment. He can truly be all those things to us all the time.

So whether you are in a routine or in the adventure, share it with God. Let him in on all the things of life and enjoy resting in Him.
